Ticketing agency Ticketek has launched an App Clip that enables iPhone users attending sports or other live events in Australia to purchase digital tickets by tapping an NFC tag or scanning a QR code displayed outside venues without needing to download the firm’s app.
The Australian ticketing agency Ticketek has unveiled an App Clip that lets iPhone users who are headed to concerts, sporting events or other live events purchase tickets without downloading the company’s app.
According to NFC World, the App Clip will allow users to tap a near-field communication (NFC) tag or scan a QR code displayed at venues when they want to buy tickets for their chosen events.
NFC is a wireless data transfer method that allows devices such as smartphones or laptops to share information when in close proximity. As PYMNTS reported last month, the technology has been in high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its ability to allow for digital onboarding opportunities. And like many things that came about due to the pandemic, it may stick around due to the convenience and time savings it provides.
“Fans can launch the Ticketek App Clip on their iPhone outside Ticketek venues by scanning a designated QR code or tapping an NFC tag, then securely purchase tickets in just two taps using Apple Pay,” the company said. “Tickets can be delivered straight to a customer’s iPhone and stored in Apple Wallet, making it the quickest way to buy tickets on event day, whether fans have downloaded the Ticketek app or not.”
According to NFC World, Ticketek debuted its App Clip at Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this month. It will add the service at other venues throughout Australia ahead of a global rollout. Ticketek launched its App Clip at Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this month, and is now adding the service at other Australian venues before rolling it out across its global network. Apple began supporting NFC App Clips in iOS14 last year.
