Triple plays are some of baseball’s most gorgeous, fast-paced moments in the sport, and the New York Yankees just turned in a beauty. On Friday, during the Yankees matchup against the Chicago White Sox, New York was able to turn an around-the-horn triple play to get out of a jam with runners on first and second in the ninth.

With the game tied up at one apiece and Aroldis Chapman on the mound with no outs, the pitcher was able to get Andrew Vaughn to ground the ball right at Gio Urshela at third, who stepped on the bag. From there, the ball went to Rougned Odor at second before finding its home at first with Luke Voit to complete the around-the-horn triple play.

In total, an absolutely stunning turn of events for the Yankees, who could not contain their joy and awe at what they were able to do to get out of that jam.

We’ve seen one other triple play in the MLB this season on a strange — but intelligent — play from Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds, but this gorgeous piece of defensive work from the Yankees is the first 5-4-3 iteration since September 2020. The play is also the first Yankees triple play since 2014 when New York went 5-4-3 against Tampa Bay in April.

Not only that, but this triple play allowed Gleyber Torres to hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Yankees the 2-1 win, marking the first time New York had both occur in a single game for a victory.

What a moment!
