A last-minute change in the MasterChef kitchen causes conflict in a team challenge

Movida #Movida

During Tuesday night’s episode of MasterChef, conflict brews between two contestants Tommy and Jess as they can’t agree on how to complete their entrée.

In a clip shared exclusively with news.com.au, Tommy expresses to his team leader Jess that he wants to change their entrée entirely, in an attempt to hero lemongrass more.

The conflict arises during a service challenge where their group is up against legendary chef Frank Camorra and his team from MoVida, with the contestants being tasked with cooking an entrée which heroes lemongrass.

When Dan tells Tommy that his dish of lemongrass carpaccio needs way more lemongrass, Tommy starts to lose confidence in the dish, only minutes before it needs to be served.

“I don’t know how I’m going to add more lemongrass,” he says. “I’m getting a little bit rattled, it’s been a great cook so far, but I’m a little bit worried now because lemongrass is our hero today,” he tells the camera.

“I’m worried about this man,” Tommy expresses to Dan. “I don’t know how much more lemongrass I can get into that flavour.”

This is when he comes up with the idea to change the entrée completely.

“Serious question,” he asks Jess. “I have another dish in mind that we could do really, really quickly, yeah?”

Jess ignores Tommy’s request, but he asks anyway.

“Jess? Remember how I did those pippies in lemongrass before, in the beer? That could work very quickly.”

However, Jess is frustrated and reluctant to change.

“It is something we could do Tommy, but I’d prefer not to if we don’t have to.”

Talking back to the camera, Tommy isn’t convinced. “I’m super rattled, I need to change this dish because I’m not super happy with the lemongrass flavours that we’ve got so far.”

Ignoring Jess’s request, Tommy speeds ahead to start the new dish.

“Guys, I’m going to do this, it will take me two minutes.”

Shocked that he would make that decision despite expressing she wasn’t on board with it, Jess stops him.

“I don’t know man,” she says. “I’m not super comfortable about changing this up.”
