Steph shouts out Baron after channeling iconic celebration

The dunk that rattled the roof at Oracle Arena lives on in Steph Curry’s imagination.

During the Warriors’ win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, Curry paid intentional homage to Baron Davis’ poster dunk over Andrei Kirilenko in the 2007 NBA playoffs by using Davis’ famous celebration.

After hitting a dagger 3-pointer in the final minutes of the fourth quarter at Chase Center, Curry lifted his shirt to the crowd, just as Davis did after jamming on Kirilenko.

“[Shout] out to Baron Davis,” Curry said during a postgame video conference. “I definitely channeled my Kirilenko moment. I ain’t dunk on nobody, but I wanted to channel the same celebration, so shout out to BD.”

Curry did everything just shy of dunking on a hapless Grizzly on Sunday. The NBA scoring champion compiled 46 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while also leading the Warriors in plus/minus (plus-14). Memphis outscored Golden State by two points during the 8:03 the two-time NBA MVP spent on the bench.

As far as the next playoff moment in franchise history Curry wants to emulate, he could have to turn to Sleepy Floyd or, well, himself, depending on the Warriors’ play-in opponent.

The Warriors will travel to play the Los Angeles Lakers or the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday in the play-in. Floyd once scored 51 points — and 29 in a quarter — in a Golden State win over Los Angeles, while Curry has averaged more playoff points per game (33.4) against Portland than any other opponent.
