Halftime Thoughts – The Blues have had chances aplenty to tie up this game but their finishing has let them down, not for the first time.

24’ – Coleman receives a high cross in the box, and the ball clears goes off Robinson’s arm but referee Jon Moss is not interested. James takes the corner and it’s overhit. Another wasted chance.

20’ – Digne gets a cross into the box, DCL can get a head to it but no power, Ramsdale collects it.

16’ – Right now it’s all Blades as they’re the ones looking more like a side trying to get to Europe than the hosts.

7’ – Didn’t we see this coming. Sheffield United lead after an excellent interplay on the Everton right. 17-year-old Jebbison – making his first Premier League start – stabs home Robinson’s center. Ridiculous, Already-relegated Blades lead early here.

5’ – Looks like more of a back-four here, with Seamus Coleman playing more of a wide midfielder and Mason Holgate at right back behind him.

2’ – The rain is pouring down, should make for a slick playing surface.

1’ – Underway at Goodison Park.

Everton had no favours this weekend from any of their rivals for European spots, with Liverpool grabbing a late win, Tottenham Hotspur cruising against Wolverhampton Wanderers (who the Blues play next), and West Ham United grabbing a late point against Brighton. The Toffees must win today to keep pace with the teams above, and will still remain eighth on goal difference unless they can thrash the Blades by seven or more goals.

Carlo Ancelotti has gone a three-man backline again, with James returning to the starting lineup.

Everton have just three games left to play this season, and recent misdemeanours mean that the Blues will pretty much need to win all three to ensure European competition at Goodison Park this season. Speaking of their home ground, the Blues have managed one league win at the Grand Old Lady in their last ten games, dating back to the beginning of 2021. Shorn of supporters, what can quickly become a bearpit for away sides has become a house of horrors for the Blues as they seem to paralyze at key moments, resulting in dropped points which pretty much explains the team’s current league standing.

Visitors Sheffield United were already relegated what seems like months ago, putting in one of the worst overall performances in the history of the Premier League. Even the departure of manager Chris Wilder, who had been strongly linked with the Everton job after the sacking of Marco Silva, did nothing to spark the side into playing for pride.

The Blades internal issues are of no concern for the Toffees though, who need to sort out their own issues at home because anything less than a win today would pretty much mean the two remaining games are moot and could feasibly even see Everton slip right out of the top ten.
