Eric Dier had a nightmare game for Tottenham last weekend when he was involved in all three of Leeds’ goals in their defeat.

The 3-1 loss severely dented Spurs’ top four hopes and their defensive frailties were woefully exposed.

Interim head coach Ryan Mason made the decision to stick with Dier for the visit of Wolves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, despite reports he could be axed.

Ex-Leeds man Danny Mills described Tottenham’s defending as ‘appalling’ last weekend with changes needed.

Joe Rodon was left out of Spurs’ matchday squad again and is yet to feature at all under Mason.

Japhet Tanganga did come into the starting XI while Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Gareth Bale all feature.

Tanganga coming in at right-back was the only change made by Mason for the game.

The 22-year-old made his first start since April 4, getting the nod ahead of ex-Wolves man Matt Doherty in Serge Aurier’s absence, with Mason naming an otherwise unchanged XI.

Wolves made four changes with Romain Saiss, Nelson Semedo, Leander Dendocker and Adama Traore coming in.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Tanganga, Dier, Alderweireld, Reguilon, Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Bale, Alli, Son, Kane. Subs: Doherty, Sanchez, Winks, Lamela, Hart, Sissoko, Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Ndombele.

Wolves: Rui Patricio, Nelson Semedo, Coady, Saiss, Hoever, Joao Moutinho, Dendoncker, Gibbs-White, Vitinha, Traore, Silva. Subs: Ait Nouri, Marcal, Neves, Willian Jose, Boly, Ruddy, Cundle, Kilman, Corbeanu.
