Liverpool fans know where blame lies after Manchester United defeat

Liverpool fans have been reacting online after their Champions League hopes suffered a major setback on Tuesday evening.

The Reds were hoping arch-rivals Manchester United could do them a favour and claim all three points against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

But with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting to make 10 starting line-up, it was Leicester who ran out 2-1 winners.

Luke Thomas gave Brendan Rodgers’ side the lead after just 10 minutes before Mason Greenwood restored parity five minutes later.

But Leicester deservedly regained the lead through Caglar Soyuncu’s towering header on 66 minutes and there was no way back for United.

Liverpool are now six points off the Champions League places, although Jurgen Klopp’s side do have a game in hand on their top four rivals.

And reacting to the game at Old Trafford, Reds supporters had different views on the reasons why their side may not make the top four this season.

Speaking on his team selection before the game, Solskjaer said: “He’s [Anthony Elanga] ready, he’s trained really well, he’s been very, very good in the Under-23s.

“He’s had a couple of injuries that have hampered him a little but he’s ready, he’s got directness, pace and attitude. I’m looking forward to seeing him.

“I want them to go out there and work hard as a team. We’ve set the plan out, the most important thing is go out and enjoy themselves and play with no fear.

“We know it’s a difficult task when you put together a team that’s never played together before, but they’re training together every day so show some personality, who is taking responsibility in a team like this.”
