Goldson’s new Rangers deal tipped to include release clause – Robinson

Paul Robinsons claims there may be a release clause in Connor Goldson’s new Rangers contract.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there will be a lot of interest in the defender this summer.

Goldson, 28, has reached an agreement with the club to sign a contract extension worth £4.5million and that will keep him at Ibrox until 2024.

The defender is yet to miss a minute of Rangers’ title-winning league campaign and has been wearing the captain’s armband in James Tavernier’s absence.

Robinson claims there will be plenty of interest in Goldson this summer and he would not be surprised if there was a release clause in his new deal.

“It is vital to secure Goldson’s future because Steven obviously thinks he is a top player,” Robinson told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“I suspect there will be a lot of interest in him this summer. I am sure a lot of clubs are looking at him because of how well he has performed and how fit he is.

“To play that many games is not easy. Release clauses are pretty standard in most contracts now so I would not be surprised if he had one inserted.”

Goldson joined Rangers in 2018 and quickly became a key member of Steven Gerrard’s squad, so far making 156 total appearances for the club.

This weekend, Rangers face Celtic for the fifth time this season and will look to complete an unbeaten Old Fim clean sweep by avoiding defeat.
