2M doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from COVAX expected to arrive on May 8 -Bong Go

The government is preparing for the possible arrival of 2 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility on Saturday, May 8.

This was disclosed by former presidential aide and now Senate health committee chairman Bong Go in a hearing Thursday.

“Pinaghahandaan na rin ang posibleng pagdating ng dalawang milyong doses ng bakunang AstraZeneca mula sa COVAX facility ngayong darating na Sabado ng hapon,” Go said.

“Malaking tulong lalo na ang AstraZeneca dahil marami sa ating mga medical frontliners, senior citizens, at ‘yung merong comorbidities ang nabigyan na po ng first dose nito at naghihintay na lang maturukan ng kanilang second dose,” he added.

(The AstraZeneca vaccine will be a big help in our vaccination program because a lot of medical frontliners, senior citizens, and people with comorbidities who got their first shot are waiting for their second dose.)

In April, the Department of Health expressed hope that the delayed AstraZeneca vaccines would arrive in the country by the end of May to provide second dose to persons who already got their first jabs.

The delivery of AstraZeneca jabs were delayed due to logistical problems.

Apart from the 2 million AstraZeneca jabs, Go said 1.5 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine will arrive on Friday.

On Tuesday, Philippine Ambassador to China Chito Sta. Romana announced in a Facebook post that the 1.5 million Sinovac jabs will arrive in the country tomorrow.

The 1.5 million doses of vaccine from China were procured by the Philippine government, the envoy said.

All in all, the country has received 3.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccine called CoronaVac, including the 1 million jabs donated by the Chinese government.—AOL, GMA News
