Labour has a “mountain to climb”, Sir Keir Starmer has admitted, as a new poll showed the party 17 points behind in the Hartlepool by-election.
Starmer said that he would take “full responsibility” for Labour’s showing in Thursday’s elections amid growing internal concern about the party’s performance.
A new Survation poll for Good Morning Britain on ITV, put the Conservatives on 50 per cent in Hartlepool, a seat Labour has held since it was created in 1974.
