Ian Book motivated to play for Saints: ‘I want to prove them right’

The New Orleans Saints effectively swapped quarterbacks with Notre Dame, sending Drew Brees to the NBC Sports broadcasting booth to call games during the Fighting Irish’s 2021 season while selecting the school’s winningest quarterback in the fourth round of this year’s draft. And Ian Book is grateful for the opportunity to continue wearing a gold helmet.

“I’ll do whatever they want me to do,” Book said during his introductory media conference call. “I want to prove them right for picking me. … After tonight, it’s time to go to work.”

There’s been some speculation that Book could be a potential successor for Taysom Hill in the Swiss army knife role, lining up all over the field while running routes, throwing blocks, and catching passes. Book made it clear he’s open to that role, but it’s more likely his immediate task is to beat Trevor Siemian for the No. 3 quarterback spot during training camp.
