  • Karl Stefanovic was left in fits of laughter over a cheeky pun used during a segment offering up tips on how to win Thursday night’s $80million Powerball jackpot. 

    The Today host was listening to Gold Coast newsagent Karen Randall on Thursday morning discuss the numbers most and least frequently drawn to give punters the best chance of becoming instant millionaires.

    She also provided an explainer on how the game worked.   

    ‘There’s two buckets of balls with Powerball. You’ve got your blue balls Karl and Ally and then you’ve got your silver Powerball and that’s the one you’ve got to get to win the big one,’ Ms Randall said.

    When the camera cut back to Stefanovic in the studio, he could be seen with his hand covering his face as he failed to contain his laughter.  

    ‘Karl’s having a little moment,’ co-host Allison Langdon said.  

    ‘How many blue balls and how many silver balls were there?’ 

    Stefanovic replied: ‘I’m not sure about the division. I just know that it’s delicate’.  

    Newsagents are expected to be inundated throughout the day as punters line-up to get their Powerball tickets.

    The last time $80million was on offer through Powerball was in July last year, when 4,367 tickets were sold in store and online in just one minute.

    ‘I imagine there are a few people out there who have pre-written their resignation letters in their minds in the hope that their numbers are the ones drawn tonight,’ The Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said. 

    ‘Others will spend today dreaming about what homes they might buy, the holidays they might enjoy and who they might share their prize with if they become Australia’s newest multi-millionaire.’ 

    The draw closes at 7:30pm AEST.
