A BBC weather presenter brightened up viewers’ mornings today by accidentally telling them she had seen ‘a lot of doggers’ in Greenwich Park.

Carol Kirkwood was sharing her report with BBC Breakfast when she mixed up the words ‘dog walkers’ and ‘joggers’. Instead, as the camera panned around her, she said: ‘Greenwich Park is one of the oldest of the royal parks and look at it. Fabulous! The sun is beating down and we’ve seen lots of doggers.’

The presenter then quickly corrected herself and went on: ‘Not lots of doggers of course, lots of dog walkers and joggers around here of course this morning.

‘The forecast for the week is actually continuing in this hot and humid theme. It won’t actually cool down until we get to the end of the week and increasingly there is the risk of thunderous showers.’

A dogger is a slang term for for someone who enjoys having sexual activity in a public place, known as ‘dogging’.

After the segment, Carol took to Twitter to apologise to viewers for her slip-up. She wrote: ‘That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry!’

But it seemed viewers were more than happy with her mistake, with several telling her that she was ‘brilliant’, ‘hilarious’ and had handled the incident professionally.

Carol’s report highlighted more high temperatures for the UK this week, after the nation reached highs of 34C on Sunday in East Sussex.

Friday also saw the warmest August day in 17 years, with temperatures hitting 36.4C at Heathrow and Kew Gardens.

The hot weather saw thousands of flock to the beach over the weekend, with the HM Coastguard stating that they had 340 incidents across the whole of the UK on Saturday – the highest number of call-outs in a single day in over four years.

The heat is set to continue, but the Met Office has warned that ‘significant and disruptive’ thunderstorms could soon be on their way, bringing a risk of torrential rain, hail, frequent lightning and strong gusty winds.
