Google is paying tribute to legendary singer Luther Vandross on what would have been his 70th birthday.

On Tuesday, Google released its latest doodle: an animated video honoring Vandross set to one of his most popular songs, “Never Too Much.”

Vandross was born on April 20, 1951, in New York City, according to a biography posted by Google. One of his early breaks came after his original composition “Everybody Rejoice” was used in the Broadway musical “The Wiz.” He would later work with artists including David Bowie, Ringo Starr and Whitney Houston.

In 1981, Vandross released his first studio album, “Never Too Much,” one of 14 albums that went platinum or multi-platinum. Vandross was also nominated for Grammys 33 times, winning eight.

“Luther Vandross brought happiness and joy into so many people’s lives through his music,” said Sam Bass, an Atlanta-based artist who collaborated with Google on the doodle, in a statement. “His songs are iconic and internationally known. During a time with so many horrible things in the news, it’s great to get to do something like this.”
