Liverpool officially leave the European Club Association

Liverpool are apart of the group that has stunned the footballing world. Liverpool and 11 other European Football clubs have banded together to form a new mid-week knock out style competition dubbed the Super League. 

Football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA have been quick to condemn this move and have threatened the clubs involved with various punishments. However, reports from Telegraph Football claim that Liverpool have officially left the European Club Association meaning that they can never play in a UEFA competition again.

In a joint press release from the 12 clubs involved, Liverpool announced how much money was at stake in joining this new venture. 

The payment plan in the Super League is set to greatly reward the clubs who partake in the mid-week knockout competition. The Super League statement claims that clubs involved should expect payments of upwards of €10 billion after they commit to the newly formed competition.

In addition to the €10 billion, the Founding Clubs will receive an initial payment of €3.5 billion to support and help fund their infrastructure investment plans in an attempt to help during the COVID 19 pandemic. 

After leaving the European Club Association, it means that there is no going back for Liverpool Football Club. Liverpool are no stranger to winning in UEFA competitions but the 2019 UEFA Super Cup will be the last that trophy that they will claim. The Reds are six time Champions League winners, three time Europa League winners, and four time Super Cup winners. 

While Anfield has been home to many great Champions League nights, it will have seen the last of the competition. Liverpool will now compete alongside 19 of Europe’s elite to win the Super League.
