Gordon Strachan and John Hartson in spiky half-time row as Celtic heroes debate Diego Laxalt ‘horror first half’

John Hartson and Gordon Strachan had a heated exchange as Celtic went in 2-0 down at half-time in the Scottish Cup showdown with Rangers.

John Kennedy’s side were floored by goals from Steven Davis and a Jonjoe Kenny own goal as they struggled to live with the Premiership champions.

Both goals came from the left flank with Diego Laxalt struggling to deal with Joe Aribo.

The Milan loanee was so poor he was hooked for Greg Taylor at half-time.

That switch sparked some tension in the studio though as Hartson accused Laxalt of an “embarrassing effort” to stop the second goal.

Former Celtic boss Strachan pointed the finger at Ajer, stating that the Norwegian had sold the Uruguayan short.

And when Taylor was introduced in the second half the pair had a heated exchange over the decision, with tempers – and voices – raised.

Hartson: “I’m not surprised, I think Laxalt had a horror first half.

“Both goals came from his side and I know Gordon was pointing at Ajer…”

Strachan: “No I’m not making excuses for Laxalt. Laxalt has not played well I’m just saying in that incident Ajer could have helped him out.”

Hartson: “Yeah I’m saying…”

Strachan: “That’s what it’s all about, helping your team-mates out. Laxalt’s had a shocker, absolutely, but Ajer could have helped him out that one time.”

Hartson: “I know! I’m saying that! I’m not not saying (Ajer couldn’t have done better)!”

Darrell Currie: “Well the good news is we can get right back into that after the match…”

It’s not the first time the two have clashed on air.

Back in August Strachan declared that Odsonne Edouard would be better in a deeper role, leaving Hartson incredulous.
