Jayson Tatum, Celtics outlast Steph Curry, Warriors in primetime duel

Tatum #Tatum

Tonight’s game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors is exactly what the NBA and the fans want to see for primetime Saturday games on ABC. Tonight was a true playoff atmosphere as the game went down to the final moments with superstar performances from both sides.

Jayson Tatum and the Celtics survive the scoring 3-point onslaught from Steph Curry and the Warriors, 119-113, as Boston wins their sixth straight game. Tatum scored 44 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on 16-of-25 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from downtown.

Two-time league MVP Steph Curry continued his insane hot streak, scoring 47 points on 15-of-27 shooting and 11-of-19 from beyond the arc.

The Celtics fell behind early in the first half as Steph Curry came out the gate firing, scoring 14 first quarter points. The Warriors built on their first half lead in the second quarter, leading by as many as 16 points before Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker got into a groove, including an acrobatic layup from Walker, cutting Golden State’s deficit to 66-60 at the half.

Jayson Tatum had 23 points at halftime as Steph Curry had 22, setting themselves for quite the second half duel.

In the second half, it was a lot of the same from Tatum and Curry, but for Tatum, he got some help from teammate Kemba Walker, who scored 17 second half points, finishing the game with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

With just over four minutes remaining in the fourth down by six, the Celtics went on an 8-0 run to take the lead, including an offensive rebound by Marcus Smart that led to a wide-open three and a step-back three from Walker.

Not to forget newly acquired Celtic and former No. 2 pick in the NBA draft, Jabari Parker made an impact right away off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in just over 15 minutes of action.

And though grabbing their sixth win in a row, the Celtics were without All-Star Jaylen Brown tonight due to a non-COVID illness. Boston was also without Robert Williams, who missed his second straight game with right knee soreness and Evan Fournier missed his _ straight game due to health and safety protocol.

The Celtics will look to extend their winning streak to seven games on Monday against the Chicago Bulls.
