Republican Gov. Kristi Noem vowed that South Dakota will not accept illegal immigrants crossing into the country amid the Biden administration’s border crisis.
“South Dakota won’t be taking any illegal immigrants that the Biden Administration wants to relocate. My message to illegal immigrants… call me when you’re an American,” Noem tweeted Wednesday morning.
The news comes after South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued an executive order on Monday forbidding the Biden administration from relocating unaccompanied migrant children to the state’s foster homes and other facilities.

“The heartbreaking humanitarian crisis on our border was created by the Biden Administration,” McMaster tweeted. “Sending unaccompanied migrant children from the border to states like South Carolina only makes the problem worse.”
He added: “My Executive Order ensures that South Carolina’s most vulnerable children come first and the valuable services and care they receive are not disrupted.”
The Department of Homeland Security reported that 172,000 people attempted to cross the border from Mexico illegally in March. It is the highest single-month total in 15 years.
Leaders in states along the border and Republican lawmakers have repeatedly slammed the Biden administration for its immigration policies and treatment of migrants in detention camps.
“This is both a humanitarian crisis and a national security crisis,” Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso told Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo this month. “You may have seen, the numbers today are the highest in history of unaccompanied minors currently in captivity. They are crammed in like sardines. And this is what the Biden administration is trying to hide from the American public.”
The Biden administration is also facing lawsuits over its policies, including a suit from Texas and Missouri this week over ending the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols, which kept asylum-seekers in Mexico as they awaited hearings.

“The effects of unlawful immigration do not stop at the southern border,” Texas and Missouri said in the lawsuit.
The complaint said that the “additional costs of housing, educating, and providing healthcare and other social services for trafficking victims or illegal aliens” have caused “irreparable injury” in Texas.
