Celebrities, politicians and high-profile figures are paying tribute to the life of Prince Philip.
The Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II and Britain’s oldest and longest-serving royal spouse in 10 centuries died Friday morning at Windsor Castle, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace. He was 99.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the statement read. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed feelings of grief and gratitude on Twitter, remembering Philip as “highly respected.”
“Our thoughts are with Her Majesty and her family who have not lost just a much-loved and highly respected public figure, but a devoted husband and a proud and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather,” he said in a statement.
“We are a kingdom united both in grief and gratitude.”
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden said in a statement that they are “keeping the Queen and to Prince Philip’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in our hearts during this time.
“Over the course of his 99-year life, he saw our world change dramatically and repeatedly. From his service during World War II, to his 73 years alongside the Queen, and his entire life in the public eye — Prince Philip gladly dedicated himself to the people of the UK, the Commonwealth, and to his family. The impact of his decades of devoted public service is evident in the worthy causes he lifted up as patron, in the environmental efforts he championed, in the members of the Armed Forces that he supported, in the young people he inspired, and so much more. His legacy will live on not only through his family, but in all the charitable endeavors he shaped,” their statement read.
Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, also offered condolences to the monarch and the entire royal family.
“He represented the United Kingdom with dignity and brought boundless strength and support to the sovereign,” Bush said in a statement. “Laura and I are fortunate to have enjoyed the charm and wit of his company, and we know how much he will be missed.”
TV personality Piers Morgan also mourned the loss of Philip on social media, calling him “selfless” on this “very sad day.”
Morgan posted a tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh with a photo, writing: “A truly great Briton who dedicated his life to selfless public duty & was an absolute rock of devoted support to Her Majesty, The Queen, as the longest-serving royal consort to any British sovereign. A very sad day for our country. Thank you, Sir.”
Susanna Reid, Morgan’s former “Good Morning Britain” co-host, also tweeted about Philip’s death: “Sad news about the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. Such a huge loss for the Queen and his family. His has been her constant, steadfast support.”
Parliament member Joy Morrissey also tweeted thoughts of Philips life during the “painful time.”

“Prince Philip spent a lifetime in service to our country. His dedication to duty and loyalty to his Queen were remarkable. My thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Royal Family at this painful time,” she wrote.
“We all should all be so blessed to lead a life of admirable patriotism, service and marriage to the love of our lives for over 70 years. Rest In Peace, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” wrote conservative commentator Candace Owens.
British soap opera actress Lisa Riley posted a portrait of the late royal writing “Prince Phillip RIP.”
“Such terribly sad news for Great Britain, the Commonwealth & the World,” singer Elaine Paige tweeted. “My deepest condolences to HM Queen Elizabeth II, who has lost her husband, confidant & life partner and to his children, grandchildren & all of the royal family.”
Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, noted Philip’s long record of public service.
“He will be remembered most of all for his extraordinary commitment and devotion to The Queen,” Starmer said in a statement.
“For more than seven decades, he has been at her side. Their marriage has been a symbol of strength, stability and hope, even as the world around them changed — most recently during the pandemic. It was a partnership that inspired millions in Britain and beyond.”
