How many grams of sugar in a Creme Egg? A viral video has confused Twitter users after demonstrating exactly how much sugar is in the Easter treat.

Twitter user @Ryanintheus shared a video of child counting out six and a half teaspoons of sugar next to a Creme Egg. Now, the video has over 230,000 views.

“This is horrifying! Guess how much sugar is in one Cadbury’s Easter Creme Egg? Answer: more sugar than is recommended for kids of most ages for a whole say! Adults, don’t even think about it!”

How many grams of sugar in a Creme Egg?

According to Cadbury’s official site, a Creme Egg has 26.5 grams of sugar in each 40 gram egg.

Six and a half teaspoons of sugar is around 27.3 grams of sugar, according to Michigan State University which calculates one teaspoon as four grams.

So the video is less than one gram away from being spot on.

As for recommended amounts, the NHS recommends that children shouldn’t have more than 24 grams of sugar a day. While adults are suggested to have less than 30 grams.

The video of sugar in a Creme Egg gained mixed responses from its many viewers. While some were left shocked by the amount, others were unsurprised.

“Well, that’s sobering. Thank you. Will never purchase again,” wrote one user.

Another user felt differently, writing: “So I’ve not even watched it but the video about all the sugar in Creme Eggs is really making me want a creme egg. I know it’s all sugar, that’s literally the point!”
