Kate Middleton and William share Time To Change message
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William’s Twitter post has sparked criticism from royal fans accusing the couple of “hypocrisy” on mental health after their sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, opened up about her thoughts of suicide and lack of support while she was in the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess had recorded a message of support to mark the end of the Time to Change campaign which was set up “to change the way people think and act about mental health problems”, which is closing down after 15 years as Government funding comes to an end.
In the video, Kate said: “The work isn’t done yet, and we cannot afford to stop here. It’s so important that we value our mental health just as much as we value our physical health.
“Movements like Time to Change have helped to transform attitudes and encouraged more openness about mental health in schools, communities and the workplace.”
William added: “We need to keep talking, keep taking action and continue to stand up to the stigma.
“We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences and taken action through Time to Change, helping to challenge the stigma which surrounds mental health.”

Miriam agreed: “Charity starts from home. Until you acknowledge and try to help your own family this is all just a cringy performative PR stunt.”
Pippa Black wrote: “Kate did something and Meghan got abused for it for years whilst she was pregnant. Kate, an advocate for childhood development and mental health, sat back and watched a pregnant woman be abused relentlessly in the media and said nothing. These are the people you use to push mental health. Sad.”
Kristen Edmonds said: “I think it’s a bit hypocritical for them to be advocates for mental health when they could’ve helped Harry and Meghan. They continue to avoid publicly supporting Harry and Meghan.”

Irma De Santiago questioned: “Oh, where were the pair of you when Meghan needed help! I now understand why she and Harry moved out in the first place.”
One user added: “Gaslighters don’t get to play firemen at the same time without taking accountability.
“Great cause and all but not a good look for the organisation to have you all, particularly Kate, at the front of it. Seems super disingenuous. But go off I guess.”

Gladys Muigai simply said: “Call your brother and say sorry.”
Nadi Rush gave insight: “Speaking as a black person from the Commonwealth, until they PUBLICLY acknowledge Meghan’s feelings about how she felt about her treatment by the Royal Family and ‘the institution’, everything this family does will feel empty and insincere.”
Shan Erith tweeted: “Hmm, interesting timing. I think mental health awareness begins at home. You didn’t apparently have Meghan’s back or Harry’s back. This is nothing but image making. Talk the talk, FINE, but maybe walk the walk.”
Karen Silva replied: “And home. You didn’t mention at home! Does that include Meghan’s issues with mental health that she had at home and was too embarrassed to ask for help and when she did she was told ‘No’?! Can this be addressed as well? Most people listening don’t know who to believe!”
Cat Clelland wrote: “Are you watching Meghan? You should be, because you have a lot to learn, on this subject as well as every other.”
