It’s been hard for many to get a read on where Mac Jones could land in the upcoming draft but former NFL quarterback turned NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms just shared an interesting thought.
After the San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft (the pick belonged to the Miami Dolphins prior to the trade), Simms shared his belief that Kyle Shanahan is looking to get a quarterback that’s ready to play immediately.
While most assume the 49ers are targeting Ohio State’s Justin Fields or North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, Simms believes the most NFL-ready quarterback that will be available at No. 3 won’t be either signal-caller.
“49ers-Dolphins…Kyle Shanahan trying to control his own fate. You trade up to 3 for a QB who is NFL-ready right now, not a project. And to me that says Mac Jones,” Simms said on Friday.
If that is indeed what happens and the Alabama quarterback is selected No. 3 overall, that would represent an incredible rise up the draft boards for Jones.
