India and England are currently involved in the three-match ODI series in Pune. The second game of the series is in progress with the hosts batting after England‘s stand-in skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to field first. The visitors made three changes to their line-up, two of which were forced due to injuries to Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings, while Reece Topley was included at the expense of Mark Wood.

Interestingly, Tom Curran retained his place despite not performing to the expectations in the previous outing. Rather the pacer’s returns are poor in the last few games. But it seems the team management wants to give Curran enough opportunities to prove his mettle.

Though he didn’t do much in the series opener and is yet to make an impact in the ongoing second ODI, Tom Curran is trending on social media. The reason for the same is the headband which he is wearing while bowling. Given his run-up and the look with the headband on, the fans on social media are busy comparing him with Dale Steyn.

Tough going for Tom Curran

While the elder Curran will be unaware of such comparisons, he would definitely love to be compared with the legendary pacer in terms of performance. Currently, Tom Curran is going through a tough phase and has been leaking runs especially in the death overs, the phase which he mastered not long ago.

In the last nine ODIs (ongoing IND vs ENG ODI not considered), he has picked only a solitary wicket. At the same time, he has been extremely expensive, barring a couple of matches. Even in the only T20I the 26-year-old played for England on this India tour, he conceded 26 runs in only two overs.

Overall, in 28 T20 Internationals, Tom Curran has picked 26 wickets including a four-wicket haul. He is yet to shine with the bat in the shortest format. In 25 ODIs, the fast bowler has accounted for 28 scalps with a five-fer to his name and has also mustered 303 runs often scoring crucial runs for England down the order. Time is definitely running out for Curran and he will be keen to pick wickets like Dale Steyn used to do in his prime.
