74th Independence Day Guidelines: Here’s what will be in place for celebrating the big day

While Independence Day every year is a grandiose celebration, this year will be an exception thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a fresh set of guidelines for the big day and here’s what is in store for the 74th Independence Day:

-Celebrations at Red Fort will be limited to the Prime Minister’s speech, a 21-gun salute, unfurling of the national flag, the national anthem and the release of tricolour balloons.

-National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be invited. School children will not be allowed to participate in the events at the Red Fort.

-Inter-school, inter-college debates, quizzes, competitions will be conducted online.

-250 people will be invited to the Red Fort. This is instead of the 900-1000 people who are invited every year.

-To maintain social distancing, chairs will be placed in designated areas.

-The staff present will have to be in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits.

-There will be a limitation placed on the number of attendees for ‘At Home’ Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

-Large congregations at the ceremony will also be avoided.

-Digital technology will be used to ensure maximum participation.

-Doctors, health care workers, sanitation workers among others could be invited to the ceremony as a recognition for their services. This could also include COVID-19 survivors.

-Performances of the Police and Military Bands will be recorded at places of historical significance. The recorded versions of these performances will be displayed through large screens, digital media during public functions. This will also include social media.

-The theme: “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” will be publicised through various activities during celebrations.
