ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Happy Leap Day! Leap Day, or Leap Year Day, is added to the Western Calendar once every four years to keep months in sync with annual events, including equinoxes and solstices.
The unique intercalary date is tacked onto the end of every fourth February as February 29. If all the Leap Day talk doesn’t interest you, the fact that tomorrow is Friday should. So, happy Friday Eve!
According to Meteorologist Matt Mackie, the spring of deception is over as we’re facing blustery winds and cold temperatures around the low 30s in the NEWS10 viewing area.
1. Driver charged with DWI after car hit by train in Voorheesville
One person has been arrested after their car was hit by a train in Voorheesville Wednesday night. The collision took place in the area of North Main Street.
2. Police: One dead following crash on Old Loudon Road
One person died in a car crash that took place around 8:02 Wednesday morning around the Old Loudon Road and Loudon Road intersection, near the North Colonie Youth Baseball Complex. Police say Ak Ahmen, 52, of Colonie, died in the crash.
3. NY Congressional map signed into law
Congressional candidates now know for sure which districts they will be running for now that the map has made it through both houses of the state legislature. This comes after the Independent Redistrict Committee’s map was voted down on Monday by Democrats who claimed in part that it illegally provided incumbent protection.
4. Moreau Town Board advances construction moratorium at industrial park
The Moreau Town Board voted to advance a proposal to pause construction in Moreau Industrial Park. The vote comes as discussions continue over plans to build a carbon fertilizer manufacturing facility in the park.
5. ‘Suspicious’ Bennington brush fire under investigation
Vermont authorities are investigating the cause of a late-night brush fire in Bennington. Police said the fire began around 6 p.m. Tuesday, and it spread to a point that it was threatening a nearby solar farm and factory.
