49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel got a day off from practice Wednesday because of a foot contusion. He returned Thursday, but in a limited fashion, putting his status for Sunday’s matchup in question.
Samuel returned to the lineup in Week 12 after missing three games with a hamstring issue. He took a knee to the foot in Monday night’s loss to Buffalo which caused the contusion he’s now dealing with.
Here’s the full participation report from Thursday’s session:
T Tom Compton (concussion)DT D.J. Jones (ankle)CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring)
This is the second consecutive practice Moseley has missed with a hamstring issue. He was limited all week leading up to the Bills game before receiving an inactive designation. If he and K’Waun Williams are unable to suit up, the team could roll out Dontae Johnson at nickel corner again. They also signed Briean Boddy-Calhoun to the practice squad who has experience playing in the slot.
C Hroniss Grasu (knee)WR Deebo Samuel (foot)CB K’Waun Williams (ankle)
Speaking of Williams, he was limited for the second straight day as he makes his way back from a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 9. Grasu on Wednesday was a full participant. He’s been relegated to reserve duties on the interior after a couple poor outings at center.
Defensive tackle Kevin Givens has been one of the 49ers’ best offensive linemen over the last couple weeks. He showed up on the participation report as a non-participant Wednesday for non-injury reasons. Matt Barrows of the Athletic reported Givens left Wednesday to attend the birth of his daughter who was born Thursday. Since Givens will have to go through extensive COVID-19 protocols upon his return to the club, he won’t be eligible to play by Sunday.
