4.8 magnitude earthquake strikes near Stockton, rattles SF

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Stockton at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake hit at a depth of 8 kilometers along the San Joaquin River.
People reported feeling the quake as far west as San Francisco and as far south as San Jose.
Just one minute before the 4.8 rattler, a series of earthquakes hit along the California-Nevada border near Lake Tahoe, one shaking at a magnitude of 5.9, USGS reported. As of 4:18 p.m., nine earthquakes had struck the Tahoe area.
Many people took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that they felt the quakes across California:
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake can cause moderate damage, according to the USGS.
Earlier Thursday, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake in Napa County was followed by five small tremors, all less than magnitude 2.0, according to USGS.
The 3.6 magnitude quake struck at 12:36 a.m. with a depth of nearly 3 feet. The epicenter was near Lake Berryessa, 7.6 miles east of Angwin, 9 miles northeast of St. Helena and 22 miles northeast Santa Rosa.
The quake was followed by four aftershocks measuring 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 1.6 and 1.9. These all struck in the same general area and people didn’t report feeling them to the USGS.
