The Las Vegas Aces are WNBA champions yet again, and A’ja Wilson is the 2023 WNBA Finals MVP. She completed a tremendous playoff run with a brilliant 24-point, 16-rebound effort in the title-clinching Game 4 to earn the honor for the first time in her career.
Wilson put the shorthanded Aces, who were without star point guard Chelsea Gray and starting center Kiah Stokes, on her back to carry them to victory on Wednesday night. But it was her teammates, those on and off the court, who Wilson said made this honor possible.
“My teammates, we lean on each other so much at this time,” Wilson said. “We fought through so much adversity throughout the season. We kept the main thing the main thing, and we came out on top. I can’t express how proud I am of my teammates. They picked me up when I was down. We cried together, we prayed together, and now we’re popping champagne together.”
Over the four-game series, Wilson averaged 21.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
