2023 NBA draft live updates: Memphis Grizzlies land Marcus Smart in late night trade
Marcus Smart #MarcusSmart
With the 25th pick in the 2023 NBA draft, the Memphis Grizzlies select … Marcus Smart.
That’s how draft day began, a few minutes after midnight in Boston, when the Grizzlies traded Tyus Jones and two first-round picks for the Celtics guard as part of a three-team deal that sent Jones to the Wizards and Kristaps Porzingis to Boston. Memphis got involved only after a previously reported trade involving Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon, the Los Angeles Clippers and Washington fell through.
What else might happen during one of the busiest moments on the NBA calendar?
Memphis begins Thursday’s draft still in possession of the No. 45 and 56 picks in the second round. Will they attempt trade up like they have the past few years? Victor Wembanyama of France is a near-lock to go No. 1 to San Antonio, but there’s plenty of intrigue after that.
