Brisbane racing gets underway on Doomben Cup Day 2021 at 11:34am (AEST) and the nine-race program continues through until the Queensland Oaks-bound fillies do battle in the Group 2 $250,000 The Roses (2000m) at 4:34pm (AEST).

The 2021 The Roses field remains at its capacity of 16 starters with the first emergency Designs for Anthony & Sam Freedman coming in for the scratched Himiko.

Betting on the Doomben Roses at Ladbrokes.com.au is led by the Mark Newnham-trained Bargain ($3.90) drawn ideally in barrier three and coming off a last start third in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 17.

The meeting’s marquee race is of course the Group 1 $700,000 Channel 7 Doomben Cup (2000m) set to run as Race 7 at 3:18pm (AEST).

This year’s Doomben Cup field is down to just 10 runners following two early scratchings from the event with Fifty Stars (10) and Southern France (12) both withdrawn.

There will be plenty of eyes on the race as fans prepare to farewell dual Cox Plate placegetter Humidor, the Chris Waller stable announcing this week the eight-year-old will have his 50th and final career start before retirement in the Doomben Cup.

A multiple Group 1 winner, Humidor hasn’t won a race since the 2020 Feehan Stakes last September and is at Doomben Cup odds of $21 to go out a winner.

Doomben Cup betting is firmly led by Annabel Neasham’s last start Hollindale Stakes winner at the Gold Coast Zaaki at a short $2.50, with last year’s Cox Plate champ Sir Dragonet the danger at $4.
