Mainstreet #Mainstreet

The 15th Annual MainStreet Libertyville Twilight Shuffle 5K Run will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4. The start and finish area is adjacent to the parking lots along the north side of Newberry Avenue, just north of the Liberty Theater building, in Libertyville.

The Twilight Shuffle offers professional chip-timing and a course that winds through the historic downtown neighborhoods lined with spectators.

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, a post-race party at Pizzeria DeVille has been added to the event lineup. This year, the planning committee is also introducing the “Little Dipper” 800 meter race for children ages 4-12 before the main event.

In addition, this year runners may also support their neighbors in Highland Park by registering for the Team #HPStrong with a minimum donation of $20 to the Highland Park Community Foundation’s July 4th Shooting Response Fund.

Runners who register as Team #HPStrong will remain eligible for overall and age group awards along with those who register for the standard option.

MainStreet Board member Beth Gallery is excited for this year’s race.

“The Twilight Shuffle is a festive event, with many neighbors out cheering on the runners. I’ve loved running by my friends and family in years past, and then celebrating with them out at our local restaurants after finishing the race,” Gallery said.

“We are very happy to put on an amazing event, and I’d love for you to experience what I love about Libertyville. If you’re in the Northern suburbs of Chicago, please consider running or volunteering with us.”

The Twilight Shuffle is a family event, welcoming racers ages 9 and older. Family participation is encouraged, with several unique award categories. The Fit Family award is given to the family that registers the most participants. The Fast Family award is given to the family of three or more (one member must be younger than 17) with the fastest average time.

Race director Anna Clausen encourages families to join in the 5K fun with MainStreet Libertyville.

“Engage with passion in your life, have healthy habits and stay active. The Twilight Shuffle 5K is a perfect opportunity to do just this. For many years, this fun event has included participants of all ages, coming together to support the community,” Clausen said.
