Sydney Thunder were bowled out for a mere 15 runs against Adelaide Strikers in Sydney as they crashed to an embarrassing 124-run loss in a BBL game on Friday (December 16). Thunder also had the ignominy of recording the lowest-ever total in the history of professional men’s T20 cricket. The previous lowest was 21 by Turkey against Czech Republic in August 2019.
With a score of just 15 on the board, on expected lines, none of Thunder’s batters reached the double-digit mark. Brendan Doggett, batting at No.10, top-scored for the side with four while extras and Rilee Rossouw contributed three each to the total. In fact, Doggett’s four runs was an inside-edged boundary off Wes Agar, which also brought huge cheer from the crowd.
Thunder’s slide started right in the first over when Matthew Gikes fell to Matthew Short. However, the real damage was done in the second and the third over when they lost four wickets in total to hurtle to 9 for 5. Subsequently Alex Ross was dismissed in the fourth over by Henry Thornton, who along with Agar continued to rip through the heart of Thunder’s batting to bowl them out in just the sixth over, which turned out to be the shortest completed innings in the men’s T20 history. Thornton finished with astounding figures of five for three. Agar too ended up with amazing figures of four for six.
Earlier, experienced batter Chirs Lynn (36) and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme (33) had piloted Strikers to a fighting total of 139 in their allotted 20 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi bagged three wickets while Daniel Sams, Sandhu and Doggett chipped in with two scalps each.
Brief scores: Adelaide Strikers 139.9 in 20 overs (Chris Lynn 36; Fazalhaq Farooqi 3-20) beat Sydney Thunder 15 in 5.5 overs (Henry Thornton 5-3, Wes Agar 4-6) by 124 runs.
