Puffer #Puffer

Winter isn’t coming – it’s here. A bastardised quote, yes, but one that doesn’t change the fact that a good puffer jacket is a seasonal necessity. Designed to protect you against blustery winds, chilly temperatures and dastardly rain, a warm coat might be the difference between you going outside for the next three months or not.

Because we’re sure you’ve already invested in some winter gear – you know, winter running leggings, warm slippers and the #1 essential: a hot water bottle – we’re here to remind you that what you wear out of the house is just as important as in.

So, let’s get into it: some we’ve tested for their warmth and wearability, others we’ve sourced from the net – digging and delving for a range of options to suit different budgets and styles. From splurge options to save choices, scroll on for our 13 top puffer jacket picks.

1 Wunder Puff Cropped Jacket

lululemon.co.uk

How much? £198

Tested by Abigail Buchanan, Fashion Assistant

Just a heads up: once you’ve started wearing this puffer jacket, you’ll never want to stop. It feels like a warm, soft cloud – the down filling is really lightweight, but never fails to keep me cosy. The cropped fit is perfect for me (as I’m a shortie) and the cinchable waist is a massive plus for customising the shape. However, if you’re taller, they make the Wunder Puff in a regular and long length, too. What else? This jacket has the perfect number of pockets (including a zipped interior pocket that I use for my phone) and a puffy, cosy detachable hood. I’d love to give you the cons as well as the pros, but there honestly aren’t any – apart from the price. But, if you can stretch to it, I promise this jacket is well worth the investment.

Currently on sale, this shawl style puffer jacket can be cinched with the matching belt to add some glam to your warmth game. Long in length, keep your upper and lower body snug against cold winds.

One thing, the outer material of this jacket is water resistant, not water repellent – so, if you’re worried mostly about rain, this might not be the pick for you. Drizzle? All good. Downpour? Not so much.

7 North Face Himalayan Down Parka

Renowned for their puffer jackets, what sort of edit would this be without the OGs, North Face? Filled with responsibly sourced 550 fill goose down and covered in wind resistant and water repellent material, I really do feel totally secure against the wind, rain and chill that characterizes this most gloomy of seasons. Travelling well between both casual and active this jacket is a super aesthetic choice without having to compromise on functionality.

TLDR? It’s hands down amazing if you like to feel cosy AF no matter what the weather’s doing.

9 & Other Stories Short Oversized Puffer Jacket

Zipper and button closures make this short, oversized puffer one of our most favourite picks. It looks just as good with jeans as it does with yoga leggings and the bright, white colour is a breath of fresh air in this grey, dark months. We suggest snuggling into the high collar for maximum cosiness. Mmmm.

10 Adidas COLD.RDY Down Jacket

adidas adidas.co.uk

How much? £349.95

Tested by Morgan Fargo, Digital Fitness Writer

Let me start by acknowledging how not cheap this jacket is: at £345 it’s an investment and then some. But, if your budget allows for it, the technology Adidas have poured into this jacket, not to mention the two layer weather guard really does make it stellar purchase.

Designed with ‘no cold spots’ in mind, meaning not one part of you is going to be cold when covered with this two-in-one insulated jacket, Adidas have kept good on their promise – there really are no cold spots. It’s lightweight, wonderfully puffy and really does make me feel protected against the elements. Day to day I wear it without the overlayer but, as the weather gets ever cooler, I’ll be buckling up the second layer on the reg. Worth the money? Absolutely. Especially if you value warmth as much as your morning walks.

11 Sweaty Betty Traverse Long Puffer Jacket

sweatybetty.com

How much? £245

And you thought Sweaty Betty only made gym leggings? Think again, dear friends! Think again.

The ultra lightweight water resistant fabric keeps the wind and drizzle out while the invisible zip pockets are bolt holes for your phone, keys and other ‘leaving the house’ essentials.

12 Allbirds Women’s Trino™ Puffer

allbirds.co.uk

How much? £250

Tested by: Abigail Buchanan

A cosy puffer from an eco-friendly, ethical brand? We stan. This jacket is made from totally natural and recycled materials, so it’s a buy that looks good and does good. It’s weather-repellent – although, be aware, it’s very warm but not that waterproof. If the white colourway feels a bit risky (my heart’s in my mouth every time I wear it out), they do a lovely charcoal grey version, too.

13 Berghaus Women’s Combust Reflect Long Down Insulated Jacket

BERGHAUS berghaus.com

How much? £230

Tested by Abigail Buchanan,

My friends and family jokingly call this my ‘football manager’ coat, but guess what guys, the duvet look is in this season. For the coldest days and winteriest walks, this coat is my go-to. It’s packed with the cosiest down filling (Bergahaus’ ethically sourced Hydrodown®) from top to toe and has an extra-long length and wind-proofing. Basically, it’s ready for whatever wind chill factor you can throw at it. The only downside is that it’s not waterproof – but for warmth, this jacket is a 10/10.
