Collingwood board member, Alisa Camplin has thanked Magpie fans for their overwhelming show of support for Finnan’s Gift, which raised $116,274.35 in one week in the lead up to the Collingwood v Essendon match.

Finnan’s Gift was started by Alisa Camplin and her husband Oliver Warner after they lost their ten day old son Finnan to a congenital heart disease in March this year.

Collingwood players got behind the cause last week, encouraging fans to donate through the media, on Twitter, by donating auction items and on the the club’s website.

Speaking to Collingwoodfc.com.au, Alisa said Finnan’s Gift has now raised sufficient funds to buy an echocardiology machine for The Royal Children’s Hospital.

“We’re really overwhelmed and would like to say that this $116,000 has got us to our goal and so now we’re going to sit down with the hospital and make sure the machine that we do buy is the state-of-the-art machine that we always hoped Finnan would leave as a gift to the hospital.”

Alisa thanked everyone who has shown support for the campaign since its inception.

“We’d like to thank the Collingwood players and the Collingwood board and everyone who has helped us including the Victorian Institute of Sport, the Olympic Winter Institute and the Victorian Olympic Council, all the athletes that walked around the ground when Collingwood and Essendon played last weekend, shaking cans.

“To adidas who donated lots of product and to all of the supporters; Collingwood and Essendon who put money in the cans, you’ve all been amazing.”

Alisa encouraged people to keep donating to Finnan’s Gift, with funds to be directed towards a grant for the Royal Children’s Hospital to assist in the education of young medical professionals.

“We will run an annual program where we provide a support fund ongoing for the hospital and each year we hope to have around $10,000 or so where we can make an annual grant to one of the departments at the hospital.”
