1 dead after vehicle goes off Santa Susana Pass Road

One person died after a vehicle went over the edge of Santa Susana Pass Road Sunday night east of Simi Valley.
The accident was reported around 6:30 p.m. just east of Box Canyon Road, according to California Highway Patrol and Ventura County Fire Department reports. The area is in hilly terrain near the eastern edge of Ventura County.
Crews at the scene said the vehicle was about 300 feet down the side, with at least one person trapped inside.
Two people were initially said to have major injuries, according to radio traffic. At around 7:10 p.m., an update from firefighters at the scene indicated one of the patients had died and the CHP updated the incident to a fatality.
CHP officials had shut Santa Susana Pass Road as emergency crews worked. Helicopters from Ventura County and Los Angeles agencies responded for a possible hoist rescue.
No other details were immediately available.
