🚨 Chelsea collect opening win of campaign with Luton thumping | OneFootball
Luton #Luton
Chelsea took on Luton Town this evening in search of their first win of the Mauricio Pochettino era. Here is what went down at Stamford Bridge.
Scorers: Sterling 17′, 69′, Jackson 75′
It was a ding-dong affair from the start, with the best chance falling to Raheem Sterling just above the penalty spot, but his fizzing effort went straight into the palms of the Luton keeper.
Sterling was at the heart of Chelsea’s attack in the opening 20 minutes, and he was rewarded for his persistency by slotting home Chelsea’s opener after a slaloming run through the Luton defense.
Chelsea pushed to double their lead but Luton remained solid at the back, picking their moments to go the other way and look to spoil the party.
Ben Chilwell looked for all the world like he would fire home Chelsea’s second when he was left all alone ten yards out from goal, but the England international inexplicably tried to square the ball and the chance went begging.
Sterling snatched his and Chelsea’s second past the hour mark to all but secure the points for the home side.
The icing on top of the cake came just six minutes later, as Sterling picked out Nicolas Jackson, who tapped home from point-blank range to grab his first goal as a Chelsea player and wrap up the victory for the hosts.
