🗳️ Tottenham fans say Kane > Haaland and Poch > Ange | OneFootball
Ange #Ange
You would think that after the nadir of Antonio Conte’s spell in charge, Tottenham fans would be bouncing going into this new season.
According to Sky Bet, however, the truth could not be more different.
The betting firm have surveyed fans from all 20 clubs in the Premier League this season to assess their optimism ahead of the new campaign.
Going on a scale of 1 to 10 — 1 being very pessimistic and 10 being very optimistic — Spurs fans are currently only at 5.3.
That’s the third-worst score in the entire division with only Wolves and Everton getting lower marks.
Why such a low level of excitement for the upcoming season?
Well a big reasons seems to be the appointment of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian tactician came in over the summer, fresh off the back of a treble in Scotland but two thirds of fans (34%) say they are unconvinced by his appointment.
Perhaps it doesn’t help that Mauricio Pochettino, a former coach who is still much-loved in north London, has shacked up at big-spending Chelsea.
The survey says that, when compared pound-for-pound (if everyone had the same players and budget) with the rest of the Premier League, 14% of Tottenham fans still think Pochettino is the best manager in England’s top flight, with just 3% saying the same about Postecoglou.
Time isn’t something on the side of the Spurs board. Sky Bet reveal that 19% of Tottenham fans think they are the worst-run club in the top division whilst only 58% think they are well-run.
A huge part of that dissatisfaction surely comes from the club’s recruitment over the past two years and that shows in the data.
On a 1-10 scale for satisfaction with transfers over the last two years, Spurs fans voted 4.1 on average, the third-worst return in the Premier League behind only Everton and Chelsea.
Added together then, it’s a heady mix of lethargy and complete disinterest with perhaps the most damning number coming from whether any Tottenham fans think they will win the league next season.
And things will only get worse should Harry Kane be sold, with 39% of fans willing to refuse any offers for the club record goalscorer this season, and a further 22% happy to keep the striker, risking losing him for nothing in a year, unless Bayern Munich agree to pay £100m for the striker.
It’s little wonder they want to keep Kane, with 59% saying he would have scored more than Erling Haaland’s record return of 36 Premier League goals last season had he played for Manchester City.
In total, 75% of Spurs fans want Kane to be named the club’s new captain, 40% believe he is the best player in the Premier League and 39% back him to beat Erling Haaland to the Golden Boot in 2023/24.
And that’s despite 67% of Tottenham fans believing the club will not secure a top four finish and 62% believing it will be another season without any silverware in N17.
