Man City come from behind to maintain perfect record

Manchester City came from behind to beat West Ham in a thrilling game at the London Stadium.

Both Alphonse Areola and Ederson made a string of stunning saves in a match that could’ve ended 6-6, with even Erling Haaland spurning two glaring opportunities in both halves to net.

The Hammers soaked up a wave from early pressure and dealt City a sucker bunch to go into half-time ahead with Vladimir Coufal crossing for James Ward-Prowse to nod home courtesy of a diving header.

But the champions were level within a minute of the restart after Jeremy Doku danced past Coufal on the left-hand side of the box before curling into the far corner with the ball going in off the post.

Julian Alavrez saw his stunning free-kick smash the post before Ederson pulled off a spectacular stop to deny Kurt Zouma as both sides looked capable of finding the winner.

And it was Pep Guardiola’s side who dealt the killer blow 14 minutes from time as Alvarez’s delicate lobbed pass was touched over the line by Bernardo Silva, who just got to the ball ahead of Alphonse Areola, from six yards out.

Haaland put his early misses behind him to add a third in the closing stages as City extended their winning start to the season to five games.

Brighton run riot at Old Trafford

Scorers: Mejbri 73′; Welbeck 20′, Groß 53′, Pedro 71′.

Manchester United suffered their third defeat of the season after being pulled apart by a stylish Brighton side.

The visitors who struck the first blow through a familiar face at Old Trafford as Danny Welbeck was on hand to tap in from six yards out from Simon Adingra’s cross following a slick team move.

Marcus Rashford then saw a shot deflect off the woodwork before Rasmus Højlund had a potential full debut goal ruled out after the ball had gone out in the build-up.

Brighton extended their lead at the start of the second half with Pascal Groß drilling into the bottom corner from just inside the box after dancing past Lisandro Martinez.

Joao Pedro then came off the bench to sidefoot the third into the bottom corner after a lung-bursting run by Tariq Lamptey down the left-hand side.

Youngster Hannibal Mejbri came off the bench to curl home from 25 yards out but that goal proved to be just a consolation as United taste defeat at home for the first time in 31 games while the Seagulls move into the top three.

Spurs leave it late to keep up unbeaten record

Scorers: Richarlison 90+7′, Kulusevski 90+9′; Hamer 73′.

Tottenham scored two stoppage-time goals to earn a dramatic late win over Sheffield United.

It looked as if the newly-promoted side were going to earn a remarkable win following an inspired performance from Wesley Foderingham, who made eight saves, and Gustavo Hamer’s 73rd-minute opener with the midfielder planting a half-volley into the bottom corner after a long throw.

Spurs looked as if they were going to taste defeat under Ange Postecoglou for the first time but a sensational turnaround was completed in two stoppage-time minutes.

Richarlison leapt from the bench to nod Ivan Perisic’s corner home at the near-post which looked to have earned a draw but Dejan Kulusevski had the final say, thumping home from the edge of the box to pull off a stunning win.

The Blades, without a win in their first five games, had striker Oli McBurnie sent off in the dying seconds for a second bookable offence while Spurs remain unbeaten under Ange Postecoglou.

Late show at Villa

Scorers: Duran 87′, Luiz (PEN) 90+8′, Bailey 90+11′; Edouard 47′.

Aston Villa scored three stoppage-time goals to pull off an incredible victory over Crystal Palace.

The Eagles were without boss Roy Hodgson who was taken unwell earlier on Saturday morning and his team gave him the perfect get well gift at the start of the second half, with Odsonne Edouard poking home after being slipped in by Jean-Philippe Mateta.

It looked as if it was going to be a frustrating day for Unai Emery’s side before Duran leapt from the bench to save the day.

Lucas Digne’s cross from the left-hand side was chested down by the Colombian before he rifled a half-volley until the top corner to send Villa Park into hysterics.

There was still time for some more late drama as Villa eventually took the lead in the eighth minute of added time with Douglas Luiz scoring from the spot after Ollie Watkins had been brought down in the box.

Leon Bailey added a third in the 101st minute to seal the three points for Villa, who move into seventh place.

Lowly Luton lose again

Scorers: Vinícius 66′.

Luton Town remain rooted to the foot of the table after falling to their fourth successive defeat at the start of the season.

Carlos Vinícius had an instant impact off the bench deep into the second half, tapping in after Willian’s low cross had been turned into the path by Thomas Kaminski.

Marco Silva’s side move into the top half following their second win of the campaign.

Liverpool rise above lunchtime curse

Scorers: Hwang 7′; Gakpo 55′, Robertson 85′, Bueno (OG) 90+1′

A late Andy Robertson strike saw Liverpool shake off a woeful first half performance to beat Wolves 3-1.

Having failed to win any early Saturday kick offs last season, Liverpool travelled to Wolves to try and end their lunchtime curse.

But Jürgen Klopp’s side got off to the worst possible start as Hwang Hee-chan found space at the back post and tapped in after only seven minutes.

Gary O’Neil’s side were flying and completely outplayed the Reds in the opening half an hour. Pedro Neto especially, was looking superb down the left-hand side.

After the break the Liverpool players had clearly had a rocket put up them by Klopp as they came flying out of the blocks in the second half.

Luis Diaz was brought on to add some energy and sent a headed effort wide after only 90 seconds.

And it took just a further 10 minutes for Liverpool to get their equaliser as Cody Gakpo tapped in after good work by Mo Salah.

Liverpool were pushing for the winner now and finally got it with five minutes of normal time to go as Andy Robertson arrived late in the area and finished on his 200th appearance.

The away side were totally dominant at this point and got their third in injury time as Harvey Elliott’s effort came off Huge Bueno after Salah completed a hat-trick of assists.
